What is involved in inspecting a farm rather than a house?
More buildings and more cable. It takes longer than a domestic EICR and we price and scope it separately rather than quoting a domestic rate and then revising it.
Do I need RCD protection on outbuilding circuits?
In practice yes, and on a TT installation it is not optional. With a local earth electrode the earth fault loop impedance is high enough that overcurrent devices alone cannot be relied on to disconnect quickly enough in a fault, so RCD protection does the work. Add damp, dust and the presence of livestock or machinery, and the case becomes stronger still.
Can you help with electric heating that is running expensively?
We can look at the installation side of it honestly. Sometimes the issue is genuinely electrical, storage heaters wired to the wrong tariff circuit, immersion heaters running continuously because a faulty thermostat or timer never switches off, or an off-peak circuit that was never correctly connected.
